Founded in 1997 by three inspiring breast cancer survivors from the Desert Mountain Club in North Scottsdale, Desert Mountain CARE (Cancer Awareness through Research & Education (CARE) has remained focused on funding innovative cancer research projects and treatment initiatives that help save lives.
Since achieving 501(c)(3) status in 2005, CARE's mission has been unwavering: to raise crucial funds from the generous Desert Mountain community, corporate sponsors, and local businesses. These funds are directed toward groundbreaking cancer research conducted at the prestigious Mayo Clinic and HonorHealth Research Institute.
CARE is guided by a dedicated Board of Directors, supported by an Executive Director (Elizabeth Apodaca), and steered by a specialized Science and Funding Committee.
This strong governance ensures that every dollar raised is used effectively in appropriately selecting cancer research projects that support our mission.
Each year, we host an impactful fundraising campaign that engages Desert Mountain residents and members. This campaign culminates in a spectacular two-day event, featuring a dinner with a live auction, raffle, and paddle raise, followed by a golf tournament held at the Desert Mountain Club.
CARE’s contributions have fueled significant
advancements in cancer research, leading to
treatments that improve quality of life, extend life expectancy, and ultimately save countless lives.
